What are Whole Grains?

Whole grains contain three parts: the bran, the germ, and the endosperm. The bran and germ keep your body healthy by supporting your skin and your hair. Including whole grains as part of a healthy diet can help reduce the risk for heart disease, diabetes, and provide cancer prevention.

Excellent Sources: 

  • Barley
  • Quinoa
  • Oats
  • Brown rice
  • Whole-grain pasta
  • Whole-grain bread
  • Whole-grain cereal 

When reading food labels, try sticking with “whole grain” labeled products. Also, choose items that are high in fiber, and low in sugar. A goal should be to make at least half of your daily intake of grains, whole grains.
